Shun TDMS0400 Premier 4-Piece Steak Knife Set

5 stars, as if it would be any other way...
I cringed at the price for months, until I just gave in and ordered them figuring I'd probably return them. Yeah, that's a LOT of money for a damned steak knife... for four of them, really. Could they really be that nice?

First I'll give my deduction of 1 star. The "hand hammered" finish is in fact a machine hammered finish. All four steak knives have identical hammer marks... all of the blades share the same hammer marks on each side. If these were hand hammered, there would be some variation in the hammer marks, there really is none. That being said...

Shun Premier knifes are just amazing. These steak knives are no exception. The handles are light and the blade is wide and thin with the razor sharp edge pushing from the handle at a relatively aggressive cutting angle. They are delicate and precise. The perfect knife for that thick steak that can handle a 2" cut of prime rib roast without trying.

These knives are pretty large. They make all...
THe height of sharpness and quality
The Shun TDMS0400 Premier 4-Piece Steak Knife Set really exceed my expectations. They arrived super sharp and are a joy to use. The craftsmanship is unparallelled and something tells me I will have them for a lifetime. The handles are strong and the blades are crafted with precision. I've use my new knife set and they are still as sharp as the day they arrived. Looking for premium steak knives? Well, look no further. This is the set to own. Buy with confidence, and remember, "you get what you pay for."

Wusthof Ikon 4-Piece Steak Set

Super sharp!
These knives are a complement to anyones collection of nice knives. They cut through steak like it is butter. The blade is thinner than I was expecting but that is only because I am used to the "Classic" and "Ikon" heavier knives for kitchen use. The Rosewood handles are beautiful and feel good in your hand.

Global GSF-4023 - 4 Piece Steak Knife Set

Global "look" steak knives, sharp, but serrated edge....
These knives are quite sharp. They are heavier than most steak knives. They have a nice feel to them.

However, they have these fine serrations. I contacted Global and asked about the serrations and sharpening.... they replied.

"It is quite typical to have it to have it with the steak knife to cut the stringy meat. However, it is not available to sharpen the edge."

I love my Global knives, but I am not so sure how I feel about not being able to sharpen the knives, as I would expect to keep knives of this nature forever. I am contemplating purchasing an electric sharpener that can sharpen knives with serrations.....

I gave 4 stars because of my ambivalence about the serrations. The knives are more than capable of cutting steak.
global knives are awesome
I have about 20 global knives and love them all, these are high quality knives...When it comes to steak knives to be honest you probably can cut a steak equally well with $5 knives, but when you want all your knives to match you gotta pony up the cash!
Best knives around
These are the best steak knives we have ever owned. All of our "good knives" are Global Knives. You can't beat them.

Shun MHS0400 Stainless Steel Steak Knife Set, 4-Piece

"I am officially jealous of your knives"
That line was said to me by my boyfriend as we sat down to a dinner of prime grade ribeyes (from Costco) and sauteed spinach. We have had the steaks from Costco several times over the last two years, always with the same recipe and preparation method. Until this last meal, we had used my Henckels steak knives. Those are serrated, and after several years, we were felt we were almost sawing through the meat to cut it. Since I know how tender these steaks are, that's saying something.

The first cut was so easy and smooth, I almost wondered if the last few times with the Henckels it was just tough steak. So I went to the box where I'd stored my Henckels set till they sell on Craig's list and pulled one out. Sure enough, I still had to saw. And I can assure you that the steaks were tender, shouldn't have been that difficult to cut. So the folks who'd been telling me for months that I need to drop the serrated steak knives can now tell me "I told you so."

Yes,...
Sharp knives, comfortable to hold and a dream to use at the kitchen table
Like all Shun knives, these are well-balanced, comfortable to hold and retain a sharp edge. I purchased them via an Amazon Lightning Deal, so they were about $100 less than typical, making them an excellent deal.

Dull or lower quality knives can tear steak or cut the fibers, pulling the juices from the meat and leaving a pool on your plate. Sharp knives like these cut cleanly, leaving the juices in the meat and provide a more tender mouth feel when chewing. I do own a set of Shun Classic knives, including a honing tool, which can be used on these knives. While Shun makes a set of Classic steak knives as well, I prefer these for their all steel construction. Steak knives like these may be used on a daily basis and are easily cleaned without impacting the finish on the handles; the Classic knives may show wear & tear on the handle, even though the blade is well-maintained. Overall these are recommended steak knives, whether you own other Shun knives or not.
Beautiful and Deadly
Just what I like in a knife. The seamless transition from blade to handle. The nice balance of the utensil - not too heavy, but sturdy and resistant to bending. And the clean cut down a tomato or a New York strip make for a nice change from the 20-year-old serrated knives with wooden handles that these replaced after a long search for the right knife.

Mundial Future 4-Piece 5-Inch Steak Knife Set with Serrated Edge, Stainless Steel

okay, but the 4" knives seem to be of better quality
I have the entire set of Mundial Future knives and do not regret the purchase. The knives perform well and look great. In comparing the 4" steak knives vs. the 5" steak knives (which I have 4 of each length), if I could do it all over again - I would purchase all 4" steak knives. The 5" seem like oversized knives. The 4" steak knives actually look like steak knives. Much sharper and better to cut into meat with.

LamsonSharp 6-Piece Serrated Steak Knife Set

Beware the "Sharp for Life" guarantee.
The knives are very nice, well made, and cut extremely well (watch your fingers).

The packaging is terrible; two pieces of cheap cellophone tape holding the cheesy box together. The cello tape broke and the knives rattled around during shipment causing several nicks and dings on blades and rosewood handles. Most importantly, Lampson does NOT cover any of their serrated knives for the Sharp for Life guarantee. I checked their SFL return form on the Lamson website, and then emailed Lamson to verify that these knives are all you get - no resharpening ever.

Five stars for the knives, two stars for the packaging and shipping, zero stars for the false advertising.

Upsate 21 June, 2013. The "Sharp for Life" reference was removed. The packaging is most likely still lousy - ask the vendor before you buy (although since it's shipped by Amazon there's probably nothing the manufacturer or vendor (CM) can do about it at this point.
High quality
Love the knifes. They are medium weight, high quality and best of all, Made in the USA. I also have Wusthoff knives and prefer the Lamson sharp so much that I retire my Wusthoff steak knives.
wow! why did the price more than triple?
knives are great. case is a little funky. could have been better there.

but the real question is why did the price go up from $125 when i bought it 2 months ago to over $400 as of this writing.

talk about gouging. good knives but do not buy at this price. look around elsewhere. what a rip off. even $125 for a knife set is above avg pricing.

Global GTF-4001 - 4 Piece Steak Knife Set

Trully Impressive Knives
We had purchased some of the other Global knives and we very impressed with the quality & construction, but kept putting off buying the steak knives wondering if it was worth the price. You know, they are steak knives. How good can they be? After getting the first four, I have to say these are one of the best knives in the Global line! (The 3-1/2" paring is amazing as well)

The balance is perfect, and they cut steak like it has no resistance. Guests make comments about how well they work & the unique styling. When is the last time anyone made a comment about steak knives to you other than it's dull? Buy them, you will be trully impressed.
excellent!
cuts steaks like butter!

looks awesome!

and its made by global.. what more can you ask?
Great Knives
I've owned them little less than a year and they still work great. They look very modern and sleek and it really cuts/slices well.

Shun DMS400 Classic 4-Piece Steak-Knife Set

Great knives but beware...
These knives are fantastic but beware of the company shipping them. The Knife Store is company that ships this particular item (for Amazon) right now and they no longer carry these knives. Instead, when you order the classic knives you get the identical ones with the stainless steel handles... If these are the first Shun knives you're ordering... no biggie... but if you're trying to complete a collection just be aware that they won't contact you before shipping the wrong knives so you'll have to deal with the return process if you want to fix it.
BEWARE!!!
The knives are five star all the way. Shun makes amazing knives.

But if you paid for a wood handle set and get a steel handle set, you HAVE BEEN CHEATED. Search for:

shun stainless handle steak knives

...and you will see that many places offer the stainless handel set for as little as $199. Wood handle sets cost way more, and if you paid for the wood handle set and got stainless steel, absolutely get your money back and raise hell with the merchant.

Once again I stress that the knives themselves -- whether stainless handle or wood -- deserve five stars

But ONLY if that is what you paid for.
not as advertised - no wooden box set
No doubt beautiful set of knives. Only beef I have is that the received item does not match the product description. The photos and the product description clearly state that the knives are accompanied by a wooden gift box. Unfortunately, neither my original or replacement set came with the box. I've since spoken to Amazon and they will make changes to the product description.

Shun Classic 4 Piece Ultimate Steak Knife Set

great knives, but a little pricey
After buying these knives during the Christmas sale, I finally got the opportunity to try these out with my friends around some beers. After washing them, I examined them to see if they were really sharp at all. I personally had never seen the round edges on a steak knife such as this, and was really surprised it would cut anything at all. While this was going through my head, it accidentally cut the cloth I was drying them on.

Needless to say, they are amazing. Everybody marveled at how easy it sliced through the ribeye. Great stuff, and I hope I get many years out of this purchase. Might be useful to wait until they are on sale, but if you pull the trigger, it will be worth it.
best steak knives on planet!
Never in a milion years did I ever think my housemate would pay $371 for 4 steak knives yet alone buying the 7 peice knife set that is excellent. although we are having a slight problem with the kitchen shears I know they stand by their product and will replace as soon as I call.

The steak knives will be around and still going strong after 20+ years!
