Fagor Duo Combi 5-Piece Pressure Cooker Set

modern features, good service
Fagor is the least expensive brand that I am aware of which also has the 'modern' features desirable in pressure cookers. To learn more about pressure cookers and what is desirable go to missvickie.com (a non-commercial site devoted to pressure cooker enthusiasts.) Some of these features deal with safety, e.g. you don't have to worry about plugging the steam escape with Fagor. Fagor cookers also reach a pressure of 15psi (which is important.) Unless a brand advertises that they do reach 15psi, assume that they don't. I suggest getting an extra gasket when you buy the item as you will need one at one point (they don't last forever). I must also compliment the company on its service. I bought this item, and sent in a rebate form (for a free stock pot). They sent me a nice paella pan by mistake. I was satisfied, however I called them to make sure that there was no mistake. They answered the phone right away (without the common maze of annoyingly slow and complex menu options.) The woman...
Love this cooker
I bought this set of pressure cookers over a year ago. It is the most used appliance I have ever owned. I have used it for chicken, roast, saurkraut and pork. Vegetables turn out great. It all turned out delicious. It does not burn things. The clear glass lid is an excellent addition to this set. Buy this set and you will love it. Pressure Perfect cookbook by Lorna Sass is a wonderful book full of useful information and great recipes.
Great time-saver!
I bought this pressure cooker set about a month ago and I love it. I had never used a pressure cooker before I bought this set, but I find it easy to use and very safe.

The set comes with a nice instruction book (with cooking times for lots of different food) and a small book of recipes. I like that I can cook brown rice in less time than it takes me to make white rice without a pressure cooker (about 20 minutes). I have successfully adapted a recipe for slow-roasted pulled pork to prepare it with sauce from scratch in less than an hour. As long as you're not looking for a crusty exterior, I think that you can make food of comperable quality as the oven or slow-cooker in a much shorter amount of time.

I find the two pots very convenient for making different quantities of food. With the glass lid, they work very well for other tasks such as steaming veggies briefly.

My only complaint about the set is that the insides of the pots are hard to get...

WMF Perfect Plus 4-1/2-Quart Pressure Cooker

COOKIN'
This pot performs well; as good as the T-FAL model I've had for almost 20 yrs. If it lasts as long I won't feel too bad about having paid 4x as much.

The only complaint [other than cost!] is the way you have to take the handle off to clean after each use. You've got to have quite stong hands to work it.
Fast and safe cooking
My parents bought a larger one last year and are very satisfied with it so I bought a smaller size this time. It cooks much faster than other traditional pressure cooker, although you need to closely moniter it during the cooking to make sure the pressure level is adequate by adjusting the temperature of your burner. Cleaning is easy but sometimes the remains of meat stick on the inner side of the cooker, making it difficult to completely remove.
Love this cooker but...
I think I would have been just as happy with one that cost a lot less. I do use this often and I find that 4.5liter is a great size for me considering I am usually cooking for two. It is also a good size for preparing side dishes. If you plan to make huge meals like a whole chicken, or if you're cooking for a family, you may prefer a larger pot.

Magefesa Star R 14-Quart Stainless Steel Pressure Cooker

Great product but no steam basket that fits
When I received the pressure cooker, there was no steam basket. So I asked for one and received a tiny little one that does not fit. To bad because I won't be able to do steam vegetables!
The biggest steel.
I would like an even bigger one, as I can.
It works perfectly and I have owned a Magefesa pressure cooker before.
They should package it better so you don't hear the weight rattling around as you open the box.
Great Pressure Cooker
I own a bakery and I use this pressure cooker for cooking my diced beef for our meat pies.

It is so simple to use and the beef just falls apart after just 30 minutes in this pressure cooker.

I am probably going to buy another one soon.

The only complaint I have is not being able to buy new seals for this through amazon because they do not ship to New Zealand, but Magefesa in Spain were able to help me there.

Fagor Chef Pressure Cooker

This is the only way to go.
Higher psi, sink-size washable, versatile, energy efficient, buy once and use for a lifetime. I have used a Fagor for several years- the 10 qt. with the long handle. Use it every week or so, very satisfied. A great way to make large quantities for several people to take home or to freeze. The best in my view. Also I wanted stainless steel instead of aluminum for health safety reasons.
Great product.
I made two meals in the cooker since I got it. They turned out great. It is an obviously well made and designed product. was easy to learn, and the free DVDS with it were very helpful.
great product.
What a great product. We use it on an inductive stove, and it is wonderful. We use the NuWave, program it for the time after it starts, and then walkaway and let it depressurize naturally. Works like a champ, easy to cleanup, and no problems. I like being able to clean the pressure head so easy. Sturdy and strong, and since it is stainless, we do not worry about what else is getting into the food other than what is in the vessel. We probably use it twice or three times a week.

Magefesa 01OPRESTA04 Star Stainless Steel Pressure Cooker, 4-Quart

from mothers to daughters
I am 43 years old and I cannot picture my mother in the kitchen without a Magefesa pressure cooker. Last summer, she had to buy a new one and she was upset because the company did not have the exact one she had bought who knows when. She bought the 6 liter cooker in Spain, and I bought the 4 liter here. I must say that the cooker was not in perfect condition, it was a bit scratched. I really did not care about that, so I did not return the item. I am extremely happy with this purchase. It is perfect for those who do not want a super fast pressure cooker. It is a bit pricey, but I think it is worth it.

Futura Stainless Steel Pressure Cooker, 4.0 Litre

Great pressure cooker!
Let me start off by saying that this is one Indian product I love to recommend. Hawkins pressure cookers are way better than any Indian brands like Prestige, Mantra etc. They are hands down better than international brands like Presto too. If you use pressure cookers everyday then Hawkins is the best and safest choice out there. I have had a 9 liter and a 5. 5 liter for over 16 years, so yes I know what I am talking about.

Now Hawkins Futura is a step up in technology. Stainless steel and clad with an aluminium core. They are very heavy and those features account for the fast cooking. Another point is that they are induction compliant.

Look out for some things. In the US never buy them when they have been removed from their original package. I have had bad experience with some local vendors exchanging the original parts. Thankfully this Amazon seller turned out to be honest and prompt. Initially, I had to endure a bad rubber gasket smell when I used to take the...
A Fine, Extremely Useful and Attractive Pressure Cooker
Of all the different makes and models I have owned and used over the years, this one is my favorite. I prefer it even over the much more expensive European pressure cookers, both aesthetically and functionally.

The lid design, though unusual, is actually easier to use than the more common types, once you adapt to it; and it only takes a short time to adapt. Now I much prefer this design, and can use it easily with just one hand, unlike most of the others.

The gasket seals immediately and tightly, and it holds pressure right away, unlike many of the others. There is no waiting for the gasket to seat, and no waiting for other valves or plugs to seat, which is common with other pressure cookers, and delays cooking. The overpressure relief system is solid (a fusible plug), instead of a loose pop-up unit (like the ones in the Presto, Prestige, and many other pressure cookers).

The Futura has become the go-to, heavy-duty workhorse around here. It is often...
Futura Stainless Steel 4 Liter Pressure Cooker
Wow... and wow. This stainless model is my 2nd Futura Pressure Cooker (and as someone who has cooked for over 55 years) is in my opinion, the best pressure cooker on the market. I wanted the Stainless model since I did not like the finish on the regular models so the price differential is worth it to me. If ever there was a "fool-proof" pressure cooker - it the Futura by Hawkins and they can consider this a love note from a seasoned cook. The LID is manufactured in such a way that you must turn it sideways, to put it in place - which then the lid is actually located INSIDE THE RIM of the base (pot)... with the sealer ring (gasket) running around the top of this lid. The handle then is revolved so that the oval lid is facing correctly, and the top handle is then snapped into the bottom handle via squeezing and snapping on the SS fitting. Once you have learned how to turn the lid sideways, you are finished with the process. Except for those who should probably not be cooking...

Magefesa Star R 8-Quart Stainless Steel Pressure Cooker

Too Stupid.......
I have had the Magefesa 8L STAR R since 2004. I bought it at a Home Show and probably overpaid for it (compared to AMAZON!). Regardless, this thing is built like an army tank! 3 safety features mean you are not going to paint the ceiling with a pot roast or more importantly scald anyone in the kitchen. You can buy cheaper PC's with lots of plastic on them, or you can buy a MAG with all metal parts (except for the handles and gasket). This thing is 18/10 INOX not that cheap-*ss thin aluminum like they sell at Wally-World. I'll admit I had sealing problems at first but I took the gasket out of the lid and washed it with a combination of dish washing detergent and white vinegar. Since then no sealing problems.

The food this thing makes is outstanding. The included trivet/insert makes the PC very versitile.

If you are not dumber than the directions (or me), you will love and trust this PC. PC's are the original microwave (fast cooking) and this Magefesa just brings a...
Instruction Manual
I actually purchased the 10 qt (and love it!) but wanted to mention that you can download the manual at the manufacturer's website since it is not included in the box. [...]
Magefesa star R pressure Cooker
Purchased the item when parts for another pressure cooker could not be found. I have used the cooker for about 8 months and have found that the pressure safety valve is made of a brass plunger against an aluminum nut. The brass pin has become pitted and does not seal against the aluminum nut in the lid thus leaking steam. This part can not be found on any site for the cooker as a replacement part. For this reason I suggest buying a pressure cooker made in the USA.

Kuhn Rikon Duromatic Family Style Pressure Cooker Braiser 5 Quart

prefer this size and shape to other cookers
while this kuhn rikon is certainly pricey compared to other cookers, the quality and elegance is unsurpassed by anything out on the market. i really like the shape of this particular model because it allows me to easily braise and cook whole pork loins or roasts since the opening is flatter and shallower then KR's other models. Kuhn also sells a pyrex glass lid that fits on this cooker so it can be pressed into service as a giant saucepan or skillet, or for bringing food directly to the table in the pot. this cooker is almost always used in our kitchen for meal preparation - can't imagine life without it!
Years of use
This is one of the best investments I have ever made in a cooking pot. I was reluctant to buy it initially because it is expensive, but I have been using it steadily for ten years now and it's just great. I use it to make Osso Bucco, I braise lamb shanks and make venison stews. I prepare beets with it. It handles pot roasts and briscits very nicely. It significantly shortens cooking time and I find that many dishes that benefit from long cooking with an overnight rest can be be prepared for same day meals. There is a trick.... Since it takes very little time, relatively speaking, to braise something you have time to to let the dish rest for an hour or so to come together. You can then reheat it and you have something that would have required several hours of cooking all done in less than half the time and it gets the benefit of the resting time. If it didn't cost so much, I would have two. It's big enough to make braised shanks or coq au van for a family or a number of quests. The...
Kuhn Rikon pressure cooker
Awesome quality and it is not made in China. Great product, expensive but rest assured the last one you will need to buy. Get the lid with this and make a dual purpose item. Again the finish and the quality of this item is awesome. Great solid shiny stainless.

Magefesa Star R 12-Quart Stainless Steel Pressure Cooker

Best cooker ever
I am no pressure cooker expert, but of the few I have tried this on is the best ever. It is very simple to use and clean up is easy. Just seat the lid and screw down the knob on top which lifts the bar to give a safe and secure seal. If the cooker builds up too much pressure, there are 3 safety features to release the excess pressure- the third being that the bar bends, which I think is pretty clever. If that ever happens the bar can easily be replaced through their web site ([...]).

For cooking it does a great job. I can cook pinto beans from dry to done in just 25 min under pressure. Unlike cooking them in a pot on the stove, they maintain their shape nicely since there is no stirring when using a pressure cooker as there is with stove top cooking. You can cook nearly anything in the pressure cooker in a fraction of the time with great results; soups, stews, stocks, potatoes, beans, meats, sauces, and more. So when the clock hits 4 and you realize that you forgot...

Magefessa 12 quart pressure cooker.....IT IS GREAT!!! THE BEST PRESSURE COOKER I EVER HAD AND I HAVE 4 RIGHT NOW.
Cheaply made
Our new Magefesa pressure cooker arrived yesterday. My husband began assembling the pressure cooker, using the horrible instructions provided with the cooker, and one handle cracked immediately upon turning the screw. I did not expect that a $200+ pressure cooker would have such inferior parts. Now we are stuck with a worthless cooker or have to pay $18 plus shipping to get a new handle. I haven't even used the cooker yet and I am already not liking this one. I should have stuck with another $30 model.

All American 921 21-1/2-Quart Pressure Cooker/Canner

Great pressure canner
This is a very high quality, heavy weight canner. It practically screams, "Industrial strength!" The slide clips and screw-downs securely fasten the lid to the pot. No blow-outs with this baby. The weighted pressure gauge makes operation almost foolproof. And no gasket required! Before purchasing a canner, I did a lot of reading in the rec.food.preserving news group. I saw endless inquiries about sources for gaskets for canners ranging from a few years old to many decades old. It was clear some of these people had spent many, many hours in search of a gasket. Avoiding the need for a gasket became a major criteria for my purchase.

I've had my canner for a couple years and am still impressed with the quality. There are only two negatives I can think of. The heavy weight of the canner is a plus for strength and longevity, but it can work against you. The canner weighs 20 pounds when it's empty. Unless you work out regluarly, you're not going to fill the canner on...
Perfect!
When I first ordered this canner, I wasn't sure if I would be able to maintain a steady pressure with my "pulsating" flat-top stove. With the thick aluminum walls, I have no problems at all. In fact, with such thick walls, I can put the burner on "high" and it will slowly build up pressure so I don't have to stand over the stove and constantly monitor as the pressure increases. Once at pressure, it is very easy to maintain the required pressure without having to constantly vent off excess pressure. The owner's manual recommends one to four jiggles per minute. It takes longer for this canner to cool down than others due to the thick walls. I factor this in to my processing time. It will maintain it's pressure (15 psi) for almost another 10 minutes with the burner off. This canner is designed to fit 7 quart jars perfectly. If your looking for a canner, this is it!
Excellent pressure Canner, pretty good pressure cooker
I've had my Wisconsin Aluminum Foundry All American pressure canner for a couple of years, and I'm still very happy with the purchase. I can use it to make a humongous batch of chicken stock, then turn around and can that very batch... I agree with the comments made by the first two reviewers concerning its weight, size, etc. This will outlast you and your kids. Very well made, and the company has a full line of replacement parts should they ever be needed.

I give this five stars as a canner, and three as a cooker. The only reason I downrate it slightly as a cooker is that it is so big and unwieldy. If you regularly have to cook huge batches of food, though, this may be just what you need. If you don't ordinarily cook up enough to feed an army, you might be happier with a smaller (say, 6 to 8 quart) pressure cooker (I love my Kuhn Rikon 6 quart stockpot). Also: if you are planning to can a LOT of stuff, you might consider getting the Wisconsin Aluminum Foundry model 930--it...

Kuhn Rikon 3344 7.4-Quart Stainless-Steel Pressure Cooker

Easy to Use
My grandmother and my mother both used pressure cookers frequently. When I was younger, one of the first kitchen items I purchased was a pressure cooker of my very own (a Hawkins Futura jiggle-type, which still works perfectly).

Recently, I decided to purchase the 7 liter Kuhn Rikon, primarily because it is larger than my Futura. Some other reviewers have noted that the Kuhn Rikon requires more monitoring than jiggle-type pressure cookers. This is only somewhat true. Jiggle-type pressure cookers release steam throughout the cooking process. This provides confirmation that the cooker is operating through sound. It IS convenient if this is what you are used to. However, these cookers require more liquid to achieve pressure and as a result, certain items can come out more watery than I prefer. You can boil away the excess liquid after releasing pressure, but then you lose some of the time saved.

The Kuhn Rikon uses an advanced enclosed system. As a result,...
WOW! NOW you're cooking with steam! This POT Rocks!
And I thought I knew what a `good' pressure cooker was! And boy does this save energy!

A friend recommend this model to me when I was looking at new pressure cookers. My old family hand-me down Presto worked, but the cap with the white lines that popped up wasn't popping up - and I detest the `rocker' pots - noisy, and to me, dangerous. So I was looking for a new PC and I was on the fence between this model and the one without the long handle. GET THIS ONE. It might seem a bit awkward at first, but if you have ever lifted a pot of pot roast or 6 Liters of Bean Soup, you know how heavy it can be! - and the long handle saves the day! And I have to say that I own several `large' pressure cookers for canning, but only had the 1940's-early 1950's pressure cooker from my grandmother for cooking.

Before I go too far I also have to say that I went to school with a friend who became a beach-bum in the South Pacific - Degrees in Environmental Engineering and Enviro...
Great pressure cooker!
I bought the Kuhn Rikon pressure cooker after the New York Times called it 'the Mercedes Benz among pressure cookers'. And even though I haven't tried any other cookers (so I can't compare) I am totally happy with it. I'm actually spoiled, I got two of these! I use them all the time! I usually make recipes out of the cookbooks 'Great Vegetarian Cooking Under Pressure' and 'Complete Vegetarian Kitchen'. Both books are by Lorna Sass. She is an expert on pressure cooking and gives a lot of nice helpful pressure cooking recipes, tips and charts in these books.

If you want to buy a flame tamer for your cooker (highly recommended), please get the Kuhn Rikon one! It's a bit expensive, but the two other ones I tried ended up in the trash can.

I also recommend buying an 'Ohsawa Pot'. When you make rice straight in a pressure cooker it is very sticky and can get stuck to the bottom. With this pot (which you place in the pressure cooker), you get absolutely delicious rice...

Awesome!
High quality, extremely easy to use, fantastic price. I have been using mine at least 3 times a week since I got it. Cooking time is reduced to nothing, I can get a really nice meal ready in 15 minutes top. Highly recommend this set. I know I will enjoy it for many years to come.
Great set
This is beautiful, hefty and easy not to mention safe with three built in safety features. It does not disappoint in any area. Food comes out fabulous. Its easy to clean. My lid is a bit difficult to get on but once on it works beautifully and a replacement lid is coming. The company is very supportive of their product. The pans are excellent quality. Scour the web....there are rave reviews consistently.
I love the set and look forward to the ease of the new lid.
Love my BRK
I cooked 4 chicken breast in 6 min. They were wonderful. Then I put them in the Bosch Mixer and shredded them in about 20 seconds using the pulse switch. There is no guess work to the pressure regulator. User friendly locking lid. I am very happy with my purchase.

Fagor Futuro 5-Piece Pressure-Cooker Set

Fagor Futuro 5-Piece Pressure-Cooker Set
I just received my Fagor Futuro 5-Piece Pressure-Cooker Set, today 07/01/2011, having ordered it two days ago, Amazon Prime, with next day delivery. I had previously purchased a programmable Cuisinart pressure cooker from Amazon.com, and was quite satisfied with it (note, the 5 Star review rating I gave it); however, the other day, as I noticed the "non-sick" surface of the Cuisinart Pressure Cooker had started to peel/chip, this was it, for me. During the past six years, I had already replaced every piece of "non-stick" cookware in my home with tri-ply stainless-steel/aluminum clad, and Lodge Logic Cast-iron cookware, and so wasn't about to put up with a peeling/chipped "non-stick" cook surface, not even in my pressure cooker.

After some subsequent online research of current pressure cookers available, I determined that this "Fagor Futuro 5-Piece Pressure-Cooker Set", is just what I want/need in a no-nonsense, modern, durable, and easy to use and maintain pressure...
So far so brilliant
The quality of this cookware is impressive. Nice heavy heavy bottom with an aluminum core, gorgeous shiny stainless steel finish on the outside, etc. I also love that the pots nest for storage. The whole set does not take up much cabinet space, and since this set includes a non-pressure glass lid and steamer basket, I was able to get rid of my vegetable steamer pot.

I've only made 1 batch of risotto in it, but it turned out delicious, and was cooked so quickly! The pressure lid was very easy to lock into place, the indicator rod is bright yellow, so it's very easy to see, and the quick release valve worked perfectly. I can't wait to try some other dishes in my new pressure cooker!

One thing to note: the packing materials in the manufacturer's box are not substantial. The first set I was shipped (by another retailer) had a broken handle on the 4 quart pot. The replacement set I received was perfect.

Also good to know: Fagor's website sells replacement...
Another excellent Fagor pressure cooker
I've bought several Fagor pressure cookers through the years and they always work fine. In fact they work great! This pressure cooker is no different. The only thing that's kind of tricky is getting the lid lined up so the pressure cooker is sealed. The Splendid and Duo models are a bit easier to line up but it's not a problem.

I do love the short handles used to make this pressure cooker set which is why I bought them. You can store the pots using less space.

As always I highly recommend the Fagor pressure cookers. They work well and are our far cheaper than their pricier counterparts.

Kuhn Rikon Duromatic Family Style Pressure Cooker Stockpot 8 Quart

Subtantial, beautiful and excellent.
I have the 2.5l Braiser and 6l pot as well and don't regret spending extra for the Kuhn Rikon brand. I never used pressure cookers before and now I find myself planning all my meals around this appliance and can have all 3 going at once. The mechanisms are flawless, clean up is a breeze and this size can easily hold a good Sunday roast. These are gorgeous pots that look good on a stove top and to keep them looking good I store the lid upside down in the pot with a towel between them so the metal cannot mark. I also keep the rubber gasket in the pot while it's not in use, it's quick and easy to pop it into the lid when the time comes.
Awesome Pressure Cooker
Oh my gosh....I love my new pressure cooker. I am VERY happy that I spent the extra money to buy this pot. I feel very safe using this pot with all of the safety features. I did like the book suggested and test drove my new pot with water in it so I would learn what to expect. I couldn't be happier. I only wished I had made this purchase years ago. I made pulled pork today with a pork roast in 2hours With my electric stove turned all the way down. My son cooked the same roast today in the crock pot and it took 6hours. I am in love. I'm cooking southwest chicken soup tomorrow. My husband is thrilled with all the delicious food. The cooker really seals in the flavor and cooks very quickly. I'm on the Internet every day looking for new ideas to cook in my pot. I even made my own broth today. You will not be disappointed with this pot. Happy Cooking!
i forgot to mention that it took me a few days to decide whether I would need an 8 or 12 qt pot. I'm glad I chose the 8qt for every...

Initially I was hesitant to buy it because of the significant price difference with the other pressure cookers, finally after lots of thinking,I decided to get the family style 8 qt stockpot.
I cannot be happier with this purchase. I am able to cook delicious, wholesome food in a short period of time. The operation is also very simple and quiet.
I am looking forward to try new recipes using this cooker.

Wolfgang Puck 5-Qt. Electronic Pressure Cooker

Just what I was needing!
I purchased this from another store after a substantial amount of research. I needed an electric "multi-cooker" for a period of time during a move that I would not have a standard stove. I have a slow-cooker and microwave available along with this.

I couldn't be more pleased! I was a bit skeptical due to the negative reviews about the cooking choices but thought that I was experienced and smart enough to make the conversions. I've had no problems and, in fact, find them quite convenient. There is an option for adding minutes to the set selection if you desire. You can also easily reset the chosen selection at any time during the cooking cycle. The cookbook that comes with it has some standard recipes that can quite easily be modified to your preferences and needs. I cannot find anything to complain about after having used this frequently for a few months.

The unit is very attractive and well made. The lid locks in place and is easily removed when it...
Junk
Bought one. Worked great for about a year. Then started flashing an error message "F2". No troubleshooting in the manual, no support available. Just broke and no help to be found.
Great pressure cooker
I have the 7-quart, which is exactly the same as the 5-quart but a little taller. It's a GREAT pressure cooker! I love not having to watch it like a stove-top pressure cooker!

I'm not entirely fond of the named settings, but they translate to: High pressure is 15 psi and low pressure is 10 psi; the vegetable setting is low pressure and the rest are high pressure; the rice setting is special for rice.

You should follow the instructions, though, and oiling the gasket (put a little cooking oil on your hands, then coat the entire gasket with your hands) keeps it in good condition.

NOTE: the error statements some reviewers have gotten indicate the pressure cooker isn't sealing properly. Either the gasket has been mistreated, not cleaned, or needs to be oiled, or one (or both) of the two vents in the lid have been stuck open with a bit of food while venting. Both of these vents can be cleaned. I have also gotten error statements, but properly cleaning &...

Fagor Duo 10-Quart Pressure Cooker/Canner

Nice Design
I had a Kuhn Rikon and still have a Presto pressure cooker. I got rid of the Kuhn Rikon. I love the Fagor Duo. The Kuhn Rikon design is a real pain if you have an electric stove. It is probably almost acceptable if you have a gas stove. The Fagor models work equally well on either type stove. Also, along the same lines, the Fagor and the Presto designs are much more forgiving. You better plan on watching a Kuhn Rikon very closely -- especially on an electric stove -- but also on a gas range. It can get to an over pressure situation easily. Granted you will likely just blow out part of your gasket (the safety measure) if you get distracted. Who needs that? You better have an eagle eye and fast reactions to maintain a reasonably constant pressure inside your cooker with an electric stove.

You do lose some steam with a Fagor though typically much less than with a Presto model. (You lose nearly no vapor with a Kuhn Rikon -- that is about their only big selling point in my...
Quick, quiet and easy to use.
About eight years ago I purchased the Fagor Duo 8-quart pressure cooker and have loved using it since my purchase. The pan is made of heavy duty stainless steel which cooks evenly and foods come out tasting like they are supposed to. No off tastes just well prepared food.

Once the pressure cooker reaches pressurization the cooker quietly cooks a tasty meal in minutes. Once in awhile you may hear a slight hiss but that's about it.

And finally, I think Fagor uses a standardized gasket for almost all of their pressure cookers. You can check with Fagor to confirm this.

Another plus is the ability to rapidly depressurize the cooker by turning the the knob to steam release. No more taking the pressure cooker to the sink to run water over the pan to quickly release the pressure.

I've cooked pot roasts, porcupine meatballs, soups, stews, ribs, and even rice pudding in my Fagor pressure cooker. All turned out great!
Just Perfect!
I use to own an electric pressure cooker, and after many scorched meals, decided to try a stove-top model. It was the best move I could have made! 18/10 stainless, surrounding aluminum on the bottom has kept every meal scorch-free. I feel completely safe using this pressure cooker. It locks easily, and the dial indicating if the pot is at pressure and if it is at high or low pressure is fool-proof. There is nothing complicated about using this pressure cooker. I just can't say enough about this pot. I have cooked professionally, and I have cooked for many years. I would not be exaggerating if I told you that this is the best-loved piece of cookware that I own. Fagor has produced an outstanding product.

Fagor 9 Piece Pressure Canning Set

Yes we can!
Pressure canned apple butter, in pints and half pints, using the Duo 10-quart pressure cooker/canner and very satisfied with its performance. The spring-style pressure mechanism is very quiet compared to the rocker style, and the psychological effect is less like a rocket launch and more like using ordinary cookware. The solid-bottomed 18/10 stainless steel has a beautiful, mirror-like finish and is compatible with induction range tops (Fagor manufactures induction ranges). The pressure slide did hang up one time, and the cooker wouldn't pressurize, but with persistence the slide goes in with a little wiggling. The 10-quart Duo holds four pint or five half-pint jars on the slightly undersized canning rack - a reasonable load for the home canner. The stainless steel ladle and funnel look great and are almost as solid as the cooker. The stainless steel funnel can be submersed in boiling water, and although that's not really necessary with pressure canning, why not kill bacteria...
I'm glad I went for the 10-quart but wish I had gotten the steamer set
I had a really hard time deciding which Fagor pressure canner to buy, and I almost wish now that I'd purchased the 10-quart one with the steamer insert instead of this set. It's not that this isn't a fantastic set, but I already had everything I needed to can with except for the canning rack. I realized after it all arrived that I probably could have found something suitable to fit this pressure canner at the thrift store. Now I'm using it to cook all kinds of things, and I really want/need that steamer basket!

What I want to say is that I was afraid of pressure cookers from childhood experiences in the fifties. Once my mother blew up her pressure cooker, splattering super-hot food all over the kitchen. I'll never forget it. It was like a bomb going off! Then one day she couldn't get it open at all and wound up throwing it out in the garden to see if it would ever loosen up enough to open it. (It never did, and we had to eat oatmeal for dinner that night.) So,...
Good Quality, Good food! Delicious, easy risotto!
I haven't canned yet, but I have tried 3 recipes. Everything came out great. I especially loved the risotto. I started it in a smaller stainless steel pan, sauteeing the onions and then rice, then adding most of the liquid until it was all boiling, then I inserted the whole pan into the pressure cooker on the rack (small pan is uncovered). It cooked for 10 minutes without standing there stirring it constantly for 30 minutes! It was perfect! The ribs were also amazing! I just put the dry rub on and put them on the rack, then drizzled a little bbq sauce over them. (Different sized ribs need different times, but the manual has recommended times and many recipes). A short time later the ribs were tender and yummy. I put them in the broiler just to make them a little crusty. Amazing! I can't wait to get cooking this weekend!

Of course, Amazon is always a winner, too! It arrived quickly with free shipping.

WMF Perfect Plus 6-1/2-liter and 3-liter Stainless-Steel Pressure Cookers with Interchangeable Locking Lid

not so perfect after all
I purchased this item last year. At first I was extremely pleased, but after less than a year the TransTherm base separated from the pot. Since was still under manufacturer's warranty and I had always used it according to manufacturer's instructions, I contacted WMF America. I contacted them several times via email, but only got the run around. Finally I contacted them by phone, only to be told by the customer service rep that this rarely happens and when it does it is rarely covered by their warranty. However, if I wanted to ship it to them, they would be happy to look at it and then tell me they would not cover it. I contacted the CEO of the American division and never received any response at all. How disappointing. They clearly do not excel in customer service and do not stand behind their warranty.
A great first pressure cooker
I received a Perfect-Plus pressure cooker as a Christmas gift. I have used it several times a week since then, because it is so fun to use & experiment with. I have been interested in cooking with a pressure cooker for a while - but was intimidated by them.

I was given a 4.5 quart cooker, which was too small for some of the recipes in the recipe book that comes with the cooker. I exchanged it for a 6.5 quart cooker, and that has been a useful size.

The Perfect Plus is incredibly easy to use. It has a very clear pressure gauge that makes it easy to adjust to medium & high pressure. It does not make any noise. It is very easy to release the pressure gently, without letting out a blast of steam.

I have let the cooker get too hot a few times. It makes a clearly audible "hooting" noise, and you just remove it from the heat.

It is heavy and seems very well made. The handle clicks on, making it very easy to take apart and clean. I have not used any other pressure...
No one does it better than this
For a long time, I had a traditional alluminum pressure cooker that was given by my mother. It has the weight thing on top and when the pressure builds up, that thing is just bouncing up and down making all kinds of noise every few seconds. And alluminum is not good for cooking anyway. I looked at several choices including Kuhn Rikon and others that have stainless steel models. Then I chose this one over the Kuhn Rikon (the other final candidate) for the look, quality and easy to clean. It's much cleaner looking than others. The control is concealed and the lid is smooth all around. I was still surprised at how well it is made when I received it. The mirror finish does make it standout in our kitchen in a good way. It's easy to clean especially with that quick release handle. The helper handle is definitely a plus for less strong arms. We have cooked many meals with it and absolutely love it. Also, its rubber seal ring is much heavy duty then some other ones I looked, one less thing...

Kuhn Rikon 3342 5-1/4-Quart Stainless-Steel Pressure Cooker

The best pressure cooker I have used so far
I've gone through 4 or 5 pressure cookers in the last 10 years, and I think I've finally found one I like. I work full time (40-60 hours a week), and I like to cook, so the time saved by pressure cooking is important to me. I use the pressure cooker mostly for meat, potatoes, beans and lentils. Typically, meat cooks in about 1/3 the time it would take in a regular pot. Pressure cooked meat is very tender and flavorful, but you need some experience in matching the cooking time to the type of meat. You have to be careful not to overcook.

The construction and finish of this cooker are excellent. It is made of stainless steel, with a thick aluminum plate at the bottom to spread the heat. This is a useful feature. Typically, pressure cooking requires high heat initially to quickly build up steam pressure before you turn the heat down. That is when food can burn and stick to the bottom of the cooker. This cooker spreads heat very well. So long as you use the prescribed amount of water or...
Mom under pressure
As a mom of two active boys I need my Duromatic pressure cooker almost every day. Especially after swimming they are starving and want real food fast! A standard dish is my 7 mintues risotto.I just throw in whatever I can find in the fridge or follow the great recipe provided in the cookbook "Quick Cuisine" that comes with the cooker. For all of you out there who are afraid of pressure cookers I have this to say: This unit is a high tech and safe as your computer! It's so easy to use even my husband can do it. Some of my favorit dishes: Beef stew, BBQ pot roast, beets, corn on the cob (no boiling 10 gallons of water) potatos for mashed or salad, whole chicken in 20 minutes! Well you just have to try it out. This cooker is the best--my kids will tell you so.
Mercedes Benz - Not the Most Reliable
Let me carry the analogy of New York Times a little further - this pressure cooker does have nifty features that other's do not, but...(a) it is expensive, (b) not the most reliable cooker, (c) maintenance costs a lot, (d) you really can live without those nifty features.

Being Indian, I grew up in a house where pressure cooker was used at least once a day. In Indian grocery stores, pressure cookers are available at a third, or fourth of the price, so this pressure cooker is expensive. But it does look better, and has nifty features.

As another reviewer pointed out it is not the most reliable cooker as some plastic parts have poor quality. In my cooker, a plastic part in the steam-deflector disk broke within two weeks. There goes one of the nifty features. After two years of daily use, auxiliary pressure valve is mal-functioning, main pressure valve often gets stuck ( and makes a mess by spurtting out water), handles are cracking, and coming loose easily. One...
