Wusthof Ikon 7-Inch Santoku Hollow-Edge Knife with Blackwood Handle

Function and Beauty
The Blackwood handle provides a great grip and feel for this knife. The blade makes food preparation quick and clean. Highly recommended.
Simply Superb! An useful heirloom!
[Wustof Ikon 7" Hollow-edge Blackwood Handle] I am fortunate to own several high quality knives for cooking. I always wondered about Santoku designs and decided to try this one. It's perfect. I find that day in and day out I grab this one first and use it most often. The balance is perfect. The blade permits razor thin cuts of most anything, including garlic. Moreover, the cut is like a surgical incision. Yes, the Blackwood handle adds substantial extra cost but it's truly beautiful. I imagine passing these knifes down a generation or two.
amazing quality!!!
I bought this knife along with a set of other individually picked kitchen knife set as a gift for my MOM! She loves it!! A little pricey but my mom is completely satisfied by the quality of the product.

Zwilling J.A. Henckels Bob Kramer 7 Inch Santoku Knife Euroline Carbon Steel

Very Impressed So Far
I had been knife shopping for a long time before I finally settled on Zwilling's Kramer santoku. I knew I wanted a santoku and I knew I wanted something I could count on lasting a lifetime. I don't tend to agonize much over any of my purchases but I found myself struggling to find the knife I wanted. The market seems lately flooded with a multitude of high quality knives featuring a bewildering variety of blade and handle designs not to mention different steel types! I was eventually drawn to this particular knife because the European style chef knives from the same line seem to earn such high praise. Oddly, Iv'e had little luck in finding many impressions of this particular model on the internet. I gambled that Zwilling had put as much care into the crafting of the santoku as apparently went into their other Kramer designed knives. I have not been disappointed.

This knife feels wonderful in my hand. It is well balanced and comfortable in any of the grips I normally use...
Regrets to Bob Kramer Zwilling Santoku Knife
Twice I ordered this knife and twice I returned it--the most recent of which occurred just on hour after receiving the product and inspecting it. I fell for the hype and PR which was embedded in a site featuring Bob Kramer. You know the one--featuring Japanese artisans pounding hot steel and forging brilliantly attractive and razor sharp knives. Well this knife is far from what you see in the hype piece. The knife handle had the rivets sticking out by about a mm such that any prolonged use would cause a blister. But that is not all. The top part of the blade tongue extended beyond the wood handle which added to the discomfort. The tongue was higher than the wood handles. I wanted to make sure that I was not overly critical about the knife and showed it to someone who has owned Bob Kramer knives and worked with them and liked them very much. He is an accomplished cook in the Napa Valley. Upon handling the knife, he declared that it must have been a "second" or that...
Don't be surprised at what happens if you misuse it
Brockenb, the fault is indeed yours. You DID misuse the knife. This kind of knife cannot be used for cutting bone and doing so will break the blade, which is what happened to you. Also, a carbon steel knife will acquire a patina, and requires proper care.
It sounds to me like you had no idea what you were buying, or how to use it properly. In the future, I suggest Target -- they have some very nice knives for $25 or so that should be perfect for you.

Wusthof Classic Ikon 7-Inch Santoku, Hollow Edge, Black

Sharp, Balanced Tool
This was the first "nice" knife I've bought, intending on getting an entire set over the next few months, and it is a winner.

Obviously the first thing you notice is the blade's sharpness (I almost sliced myself when I first picked it up). It will cut through pretty much anything with ease. I busted it out the night I first bought it and sliced some radishes paper thin with ease. In fact, the hardest part is avoiding your fingers. The santoku portion means foods you are cutting will slide off the knife because of the "air pockets" that the grooves create.

The next thing you'll start to notice is the balance of the blade itself. Even compared to other Wusthof knives, the Ikon is exceptionally more balanced and lighter in the hand.

Finally, on an aesthetic level, the African wood handle sold me. It's contoured so it fits your hand well, yet feels sturdy enough to last a lifetime. The lack of a huge "red" Wusthof symbol on the handle is nicer, in...
Solid, sharp, well-balanced knife
I thought hard about getting the asian style(global, shun) but I hear they're harder to sharpen than the German knives. This knife is more comfortable than the Wustof classic, with an ergonomic grip that's very natural to hold(my hands are slightly smaller than average), even if some think it looks weird. Compared with the classic, the Ikon feels better balanced, too. I didn't know much about this knife when I bought it, but it's a solidly built, comfortable, sharp and does a nice job keeping from sticking to food. Best knife I've ever used. Highly recommended.
Sharp, Balanced knife
I got The Wusthof Classic Ikon Santoku 5" knife after researching about the different tiers of models and their craftmanship. The Classic Ikon line I would consider Wusthof's middle-of-the pack line of knives. Before I did my research, I have already purchased a set of Gourmet line knives (entry level). Let me tell you, The quality between the two lines is like night and day.
The balance, quality and ergonomic on the Classic Ikon santoku is amazing. Very light weight and cuts up vegetables and boneless meats with ease. I am a lefty in a world of righties, so this fits well on either hand. This fact (along with pricing) is a reason why Shun knives with their cool Demascus blade out of the equation: because of their special "D" handles makes them -handed specific...but I digress.
I am an amateur when it comes to cutlery and cooking, but when friends and family come over and help prepare the meal, I always get the "woah!" expression when they use this knife. It also helps that...

Shun TDM0727 Premier Santoku Knife, 5-1/2-Inch

Great knife
This knife is the only knife I use. It feels good in the hand and it cuts, dices and chops without effort. Be careful because it is very sharp, which takes some getting use to.
Awesome knife
I bought this knife for my boyfriend for Christmas. He's a chef and all I hear day in and day out after work is how much he loves it! I've never actually gotten to use it but I trust his opinion!! :)
Shun knives can't be beat...
My wife, kitchen marvel, told me for years that Shun knives are perfect for cooks. Bought her one...then two...then three....and for our next anniversary! maybe four.!!! She loves 'em...!!!

Mcusta- Zanmai HKQ-3003D 7-Inch Santoku Knife

High Quality Japanese Knife
This is a high end Japanese knife manufacturer, best known for its pocket knife range, who does not shy away from using modern techniques in fabrication, especially for the earlier stages of knife making. You can google the company making these and read about their history and manufacturing methods.

In the hand the knife is very nice and it cuts well. The steel is reputed to be hard and of high quality.

The Damascus blade is attractive. The knife I bought was well priced for what it is.

I like this knife and would consider adding other knives from this producer to my set.
